Cover Crush…Winter Sky

I will freely admit that I judge books by their covers. The cover is usually what first captures my attention when browsing Goodreads or Netgalley. Actually, in all honesty, it isn’t just usually, it’s pretty much all the time. The cover determines if I look at the synopsis and reviews. This cover is stunning in its simplicity. The colors are gorgeous and the cover really give no idea as to what the book is about. Is that a church in the background? What is the emblem? One must look at the book synopsis or read it to know what the subject matter really is.The blues and golds and white are so pretty. What about you?

Conversation at Our House…Art

We have tried to raise our boys with an understanding and appreciation of different types of art and music. I think we’ve done a decent job. This conversation was when they were about 9 and 11. Still one of my favorites.——————————————-The Boy: “Mom, you know how the TMNT are all named for artists?”Mom: “Yes.”The Boy: “Can you get me biographies of all of them? DaVinci, Michelangelo and the others? I was just thinking that I really want to learn about them. And Beethoven, too. I also need to get a poster or something of the Mona Lisa so I can start drawing it.”Mom: (After giving him a big kiss.) “Absolutely I can find you some biographies! I have some books about Michelangelo you can start looking at now.”The Boy: “Awesome!”The Brother: (Looking at the cover of the Michelangelo art book I just handed his brother) “Hey, that’s David!”©Holly B. of 2 Kids and Tired Books 2007-2014 All rights reserved. Cover Crush…The Spymistress

I will freely admit that I judge books by their covers. The cover is usually what first captures my attention when browsing Goodreads or Netgalley. Actually, in all honesty, it isn’t just usually, it’s pretty much all the time. The cover determines if I look at the synopsis and reviews. The colors in this cover really stood out to me. The rich, vibrant purple paired with the gold is stunning. The woman is posed, as if she is contemplating something important. The papers in her lap look to be in code. Who is she? Is she the Spymistress? This is a gorgeous cover, perfect for a historical novel. It draws me in and I am so curious. What about you?
